The Holmesville youth that pleaded guilty to first-degree murder of an 11-year-old girl in June could be sentenced next month.
The youth appeared in video court Tuesday for an update on the case, with October 13, 14, and 16 tentatively set aside for a sentencing hearing.
The matter will only proceed if a psychological assessment ordered by Justice Marc Garson is completed by then.
The parties will return to court by video on September 29, when the assessment is expected to be completed. Garson said the youth's sentencing will take priority over other matters due to its severity.
The youth has been in custody for 26 months pre-sentence since his July 2024 arrest.
The maximum sentence for a young person found guilty of first-degree murder is 10 years, with six served in custody.
