Maitland Conservation is celebrating 75 years with River Fest this Sunday, August 30, at the Brussels Conservation Area.
Communications Coordinator Jayne Thompson said the drop-in event takes place from noon to 4:00 p.m.
"It's a community, family-friendly event," Thompson explained. "It's a free event. We're going to have about 15 different stations, and all kinds of hands-on activities. The Canadian Raptors Conservancy will be there doing a birds of prey flight show."
There will also be stream health demonstrations and beginner fishing at the mill pond.
"We've got Scales Nature Park with a native reptile display, " Thompson added. "We're going to be building little model boats. There will be a pollinator patch with a native seed giveaway. And also, as long as supplies last, we're going to be giving away tree seedlings, as well."
Food will be available for purchase from the local Leo’s Club barbecue.
Organizers recommend parking along Sports Drive to enter near the dam, as Alfred Street parking will be limited primarily to accessibility access.
