Elderly pedestrian seriously hurt in collision at Stratford Mall dies

An 86-year-old pedestrian has died from his injuries after a collision involving a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Stratford Mall.

Emergency crews were called to the front entrance of the mall where the pedestrian had been hit just after 11 a.m. on Sunday. Firefighters removed the 86-year-old Stratford man from under the truck. He was then airlifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

Stratford police said the man died from his injuries late Sunday night.

The driver of the pickup, a 38-year-old St Catherines resident, remained on scene.

A section of the parking lot was blocked off by yellow police tape for much of the day while investigators were on scene. It has since been reopened.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

They are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has camera footage to contact Constable Thomas Lecomte at 519-271-4141 ext. 8132 or [email protected].
