Huron Perth Public Health names associate medical officer of health

A doctor who has served as physician consultant for Huron Perth Public Health for five years is the health unit's new associate medical officer of health.

The Ministry of Health approved the appointment of Dr. Lauren Hayward to the position, the health unit confirmed on Monday.

"This appointment marks an important milestone for Huron Perth Public Health and reflects Dr. Hayward’s expertise and commitment to advancing public health in our region,” Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen said in a statement.

Hayward, who has been the health unit's physician consultant since 2021, was also the director of the population health department. She also provided sexual health services with the former Perth District Health Unit and Huron Perth Public Health since 2017 and is an adjunct professor for the department of Family Medicine at Western University.

Additionally, Hayward has 12 years of experience in family medicine including as a family physician in North Perth.

Hayward said she looks forward to continuing to work with the skilled and committed team at the health unit and partnering with Huron and Perth communities to help improve health and well-being.
