Huron County hosting long-running plowing competition

Final preparations are underway as the 98th Annual Huron County Plowing Match returns Thursday and Friday.

The event is being hosted by the Underwood family this year, at their farm on Howick Turnberry Road just outside of Wingham.

Huron County Plowman's Association President Ross McIntosh said visitors can enjoy elite competitive plowing.

"The day before the match is the sod busters achievement day, 4-H club," McIntosh explained. "The day of is where we get plowmen from the county and outside the county to compete in their plowing classes. And also some horses will be plowing that day."

Visitors will also enjoy live field demonstrations and community displays celebrating local rural heritage.

"The Princess Competition is Thursday," McIntosh added. "The Queen Competition, the main event, is Friday. And there's a silent auction, and an auction, with Ben Lobb, so it should be a lively night."

Admission is by donation.
