A major Walkerton thoroughfare is back to full capacity.
Normal traffic flow has officially returned to the Durham Street Bridge, as Bruce County announced the removal of all temporary weight limits and detour routes Tuesday.
Following a comprehensive inspection of the bridge and the successful completion of necessary structural repairs, the crossing is once again safe to handle regular traffic, including commercial vehicles and heavy trucks.
Effective immediately, all weight caps on the Durham Street Bridge have been rescinded. Additionally, crews have taken down temporary Alternate Truck Route signage, and designated detour paths have officially been discontinued.
Commercial haulers and heavy vehicles are free to resume using the bridge under standard traffic laws.
Local officials noted that driver compliance with the load limits and detour routes was critical throughout the construction phase to preserve essential transportation infrastructure and ensure public safety. Bruce County representatives expressed appreciation to all motorists for their patience and cooperation while work on the major infrastructure project was carried out.
The weight limits were first put in place in February 2024 to allow crews to complete the bridge's rehabilitation safely.
