A former Owen Sound instructor has permanently resigned from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) after pleading guilty to criminal charges two years ago.
Douglas Wagter pled guilty to wilfully committing an indecent act in the presence of one or more young persons on October 17, 2024.
The court heard that Wagter attended a local fitness facility and engaged in conversations with two students while fully naked.
He received a conditional discharge followed by two years' probation. That included an order not to be in the company of any children under the age of 12 years unless an adult aware of this order is present.
It was only in July that he had a disciplinary hearing with the OCT. He had resigned his membership with the College in March 2024.
During the hearing, Wagter acknowledged that his resignation is irrevocable and aggreed to never reapply or seek reinstatement. He also agreed to never work or teach again in any position that requires membership in the College.
