The Town of Hanover is mourning the loss of Councillor Harold Fleet, who passed away this week at the age of 71.
In a statement, the Town said Fleet proudly served Hanover throughout his life, whether it was his involvement with the local Legion, volunteering with the Barons, or serving on council since 2018.
Fleet passed away at the Hanover and District Hospital on Monday surrounded by family.
In honour of Councillor Fleet, the flags at the Civic Centre and P & H Centre will be lowered.
"Known for his outgoing nature and friendly personality, Harold touched the lives of countless residents," read a statement from the Municipality. "Whether through his volunteer work, community involvement or service on Council, he worked to make Hanover a better place. His dedication, kindness and commitment to public service will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him."
Fleet was in his second term of council. He had not filed to run again in the fall.
The next regular Hanover council meeting is set for August 10.
A Celebration of Life for Fleet will be held August 11.
