Assault charge from North Huron council incident dropped

The 69-year-old man arrested in an altercation following a North Huron council meeting has had his assault charge dropped.

On July 20, one charge of assault causing bodily harm levied against George Mills was withdrawn.

The charge stemmed from an incident following the February 17, 2026, North Huron council meeting. The accused claimed that Deputy Reeve Kevin Falconer grabbed him in a heated exchange.

Huron County OPP investigated and eventually charged the man on March 4. He is still facing one charge of obstructing a peace officer related to his arrest, after reportedly refusing to return to his cell while his release conditions were altered.

Mills suffered two cracked ribs in the incident, but the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared police of any wrongdoing.

He will appear in Goderich court on August 10 where the remaining charge will be to be spoken.
