Huron County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after several suspected counterfeit Canadian five-dollar bills were used at businesses in Goderich and Clinton.
Police say the bills were passed over the past month and closely resembled legitimate currency.
However, investigators noted the bills showed “excessive wear, and colour differences.”
Residents and businesses are being encouraged to carefully check any five-dollar bills they receive.
“If they suspect a fraudulent bill is in their possession,” police said they should contact the OPP, which will forward the currency to the RCMP for further examination.
