A Shelburne resident is facing a long list of charges after counterfeit money, an imitation handgun, and cocaine were seized by West Grey police.
A business in the municipality called police on Tuesday about a person attempting to pass fake $50 bills.
Officers found a man matching the suspect description attempting to start a motorcycle in the parking lot of a local gas station. Further investigation found the man was prohibited from driving.
The man was arrested. A search of a crossbody bag allegedly belonging to the man turned up an undisclosed quantity of counterfeit $50 bills, cocaine, an imitation BB handgun, and two CO2 cylinders.
Police additionally determined the motorcycle, which had no licence plates displayed, had previously been reported stolen.
A Shelburne man is charged with eight offences, including uttering counterfeit money, possession of counterfeit money, driving while prohibited, possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
"The West Grey Police Service reminds the public and local businesses to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions and to report any suspected counterfeit currency to police immediately," police said in a statement.
