Listowel Gardens completes first apartments as commercial phase takes shape

The first residential phase of the Listowel Gardens development is complete, while construction is underway on a commercial building expected to bring several new businesses to Listowel.

The approximately $75-million mixed-use development is being built at the corner of Mitchell Road South and Twamley Street West.

Phase one includes a five-storey building with 89 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, along with a 3,500-square-foot clubhouse. The development also includes a fitness centre, pickleball court, playground, and outdoor gathering areas.

Work has now moved to the commercial phase, which is expected to include eight units within a roughly 13,000-square-foot building.

Businesses announced for the site include a dental clinic, daycare, Mary Brown’s Chicken, Pizza Pizza, and Firehouse Subs.

A third phase is planned to add another five-storey apartment building containing 89 units, bringing the completed development to 178 apartments.

Listowel Gardens broke ground in April 2025 as the first project supported through North Perth’s Attainable Housing Community Improvement Plan. The municipal program was established to reduce financial barriers to housing construction and encourage a wider range of affordable and attainable units.

At the time of the groundbreaking, municipal officials said the project was intended to help address housing shortages that can make it difficult for local agricultural, industrial and commercial employers to attract workers.

The apartments range from approximately 425 to 950 square feet and are currently being marketed for rent.
