Driver with insecure load allegedly had open liquor, meth in vehicle

A Mapleton Township man is facing nearly a dozen charges after allegedly operating an unsafe vehicle with an insecure load and an open liquor container inside.

Wellington County OPP were conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Wellington Road 7 around 10 a.m. on Tuesday when a vehicle with an insecure load was seen. Officers stopped the vehicle and noticed an open alcohol container while speaking to the driver.

A search of the vehicle then turned up suspected methamphetamine.

A 50-year-old man from Mapleton Township was arrested. He is charged with possession of drugs, driving with an open container of liquor, driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving an unsafe vehicle, having an insecure load, failing to surrender a vehicle permit, driving a vehicle with no current validated permit, failing to properly wear a seat belt, and using a defaced plate.

The man has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Guelph court in relation to the charges on September 25.
