Grey Bruce OPP seized over a kilogram of suspected fentanyl and arrested two people for trafficking after serving a series of warrants in Owen Sound and Meaford on Tuesday.
According to police, the individuals were arrested after a traffic stop in Grey Highlands Monday night, with assistance from the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit.
Officers searched the vehicle and located and seized a package containing suspected fentanyl.
Following that arrest, search warrants were served at a residence on Sixth Avenue West in Owen Sound and at a building on Grey Road 12 in Meaford.
As a result of the investigation, OPP seized 1,001 grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $250,000, 8.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $850, and $30,000 in offence-related property.
"This seizure is a significant achievement for our officers," said Inspector Marla Barfoot, Detachment Commander of the Grey Bruce OPP in a media release. "The removal of over one kilogram of suspected fentanyl from our communities represents a major disruption to those who profit from the sale of dangerous drugs. Every quantity of fentanyl seized has the potential to prevent harm, save lives, and improve community safety."
A 48-year-old Owen Sound man and a 34-year-old Meaford woman face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Both accused were held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on Tuesday and were remanded into custody.
