Gateway Centre launches 'Aging in Place' survey for seniors

The Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health has launched a new survey for local seniors.

This new survey, called "Aging in Place", is open to all adults aged 55 and over who are living independently in Huron County. Gateway Centre says the goal of the new pilot project survey is to "better understand the experiences, needs, and priorities of older adults in the community."

Many people in the region are looking to be independent as they age and live at home as long as possible, but many factors can affect people's ability to do so. That includes access to healthcare, transportation, social connections, housing, technology, and mobility.

Understanding older adults' experiences and challenges in relation to these and other factors is what the survey aims to do. The survey was inspired by the World Health Organization's Integrated Care for Older People framework, which recognizes that healthy ageing extends beyond medical care. Gateway Centre hopes to be able to find opportunities to better support older adults in living healthier, more independent lives.
