Man charged with assault after motel fight in Hanover

Hanover police say a man is facing several charges following an overnight fight.

Officers responded to a motel at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday on a report of two men fighting in the parking lot. They learned that one man allegedly attacked the other, broke his cell phone, then chased him with what was believed to be a bag containing a machete.

The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

The suspect was found a short time later walking along 10th Street, and he was arrested without incident.

The 35-year-old man is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, possession of a dangerous weapon, and two counts of breach of probation.

He was remanded into custody. The investigation continues.
