A 34-year-old man was arrested in Port Elgin on Tuesday after allegedly stealing a purse from a local crossing guard.
Earlier in the day, Saugeen Shores Police received a report of man in a parking lot of a local restaurant threatening to punch customers. The man then left the area on foot.
A second call came in reporting that the same man had stolen a purse from a crossing guard booth in the area of Catherine and Goderich Street.
The suspect was known to police, having already had 17 officer-involved incidents in the month of June.
The man of no fixed address was located quickly, placed under arrest, and charged with theft under $5,000, causing a disturbance, and failure to comply with a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing and released on an order with a future court date.
Saugeen Shores Police said they were able to return the stolen purse to its owner.
