Bear spotted in Kincardine

Kincardine residents are being reminded what to do if they encounter a bear after one was seen in the community.

South Bruce OPP issued an alert about the animal which was reportedly in the area of Lakefield Drive and Mahood Johnston Drive on Wednesday night.

Police advise the public to stay away from the bear and not to approach it under any circumstances. Garbage, pet food, and other food sources should not be kept outside to avoid attracting the bear.

Anyone who encounters the animal should remain calm, slowly back away while keeping the bear in sight, and wait for it to leave. If the bear doesn't leave, wave your arms and make noise. If the bear is in a tree, leave it alone. The bear will come down when it feels safe.

The Bear Wise reporting line is available at 1-866-514-2327 for non-emergency bear concerns.
