Three suspects charged after running from police and firearms recovery

Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged three people after a vehicle sped off from a RIDE checkpoint.

On the morning of May 19 at 1 a.m., officers were conducting a RIDE checkpoint at the intersection of 10th Concession and Grey Road 18 in the Municipality of Meaford. One vehicle came through and police determined the driver was in breach of court orders. Police attempted to arrest the driver, who instead sped away.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP Community Street Crime Unit got involved, and on June 4, investigators came to a home on Grey-Bruce Line just outside of Chatsworth. The suspect tried to speed off again in a stolen vehicle, which hit a police cruiser in the process, injuring two officers.

The driver ran off on foot and was eventually arrested. Two other people inside the stolen vehicle were also arrested. Officers seized a .22 calibre rifle during the arrests. As a result, a 24-year-old from Owen Sound is facing a lengthy list of charges including assault a peace officer, unauthorized possession of a firearm and many more.

Additionally, a 36-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula and an 18-year-old from Kincardine also face charges including possession of property obtained by crime and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The 36 and 18-year-old were both released on court ordered conditions following a bail hearing, and the 24-year-old remains in police custody. The investigation is ongoing with no court dates set yet for the accused.
