Kids hit the course at Goderich bicycle safety day

Young cyclists had a chance to sharpen their riding skills and build confidence on two wheels during a bicycle safety event in Goderich over the weekend.

Members of the Huron County OPP joined community partners on Saturday, June 6, 2026 for a Kids Bicycle Safety Day aimed at children between the ages of five and 10. The event was organized in partnership with Goderich Canadian Tire, the Town of Goderich, The Miller Group, the Goderich Environment Committee, and New Hope Bicycles through its Ride Smart Program.

A cycling course was set up to help participants practice safe riding techniques, while volunteers assisted with bike fitting, minor tune-ups, and safety instruction.

The event also featured a free barbecue lunch and prize giveaways for participants.

Huron OPP Community Engagement Officer Provincial Constable Craig Soldan said the day was a rewarding one for organizers and families alike.

"The weather cooperated and everyone had fun. The highlight for me was seeing the smile on the kids faces as they gained confidence through the course. One little rider went through the course at least 30 times," said Soldan.

He added that the event was made possible through the efforts of volunteers and community partners, calling it "an excellent team effort" and expressing hope that another cycling safety day can be held next year.
