A Hanover man is facing 13 charges following a late-night break and enter investigation that escalated into a confrontation with police.
Hanover Police say officers were called to a home on County Road 28 just before midnight on May 30, 2026 after receiving reports that an unwanted man was trying to enter the residence of a former partner.
Police arrived to find the suspect allegedly using a stone to smash his way into the home through a rear patio door. Officers say the man then threw the stone at them before fleeing the area.
Additional officers from West Grey Police Service and the OPP were called in to help contain the situation.
Police say the suspect later returned to the property, where a conducted energy weapon was deployed during a second encounter. He was taken into custody following what police describe as a violent struggle.
Investigators allege the man continued resisting arrest and spat in the face of an officer while being escorted to a cruiser.
A 34-year-old Hanover man was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody. He is charged with break and enter with intent, mischief, resisting and obstructing police, three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Hanover Police say the incident was resolved without any physical injuries and are thanking West Grey Police and the OPP for their assistance.
