Tornado confirmed near London

A meteorological group is confirming that at least one tornado touched down in the London area during Tuesday's storm.

According to the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP), a funnel made contact with the ground just southeast of London.

The NTP confirmed the tornado nearly a day later after reviewing video and radar evidence, while also having a survey team visit the site to see the damage in person.

No injuries have been reported. Several trees and power lines were damaged in the storm.

Thousands of people were without power across the city in the wake of the storm. London Hydro has since restored power to most customers. As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, between 50 and 500 customers in the east end still don't have power.

The NTP survey team will continue to visit London to learn more about this tornado and whether damage in other parts of the city was caused by strong winds or a full tornado.
