Hanover Police seek suspect in credit card fraud

Hanover Police are asking for the public's help locating a suspect that helped defraud a local computer store.

According to police, on March 26, the business was contacted over the phone by a man posing as the owner of a fictitious company. The man purchased two laptops over the phone using a credit card.

After the transaction was completed, a woman went to the store and received the laptops on behalf of the company.

A month later, the business was notified by their point of sales processor that the credit card used for the purchase was fraudulent and the payment would not proceed.

Police are reminding businesses to remain vigilant when processing high value purchases, in particular transactions involving third party pick ups, rushed requests or inconsistent billing information.

The investigation and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Hanover Police Service at 519-364-2411 or Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce at 1-800-222-8477.
