In an effort to promote fire safety awareness and strengthen community ties, firefighters with the Owen Sound Fire Department will once again be knocking on doors.
Starting Friday, firefighters will go door-to-door in the northeast end of the city in the late afternoon and early evening for the annual home visitation program. With residents' permission they will inspect fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the homes to ensure they are working properly. They will also share information about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, home escape planning, and general fire safety practices.
"Residents are encouraged to speak with firefighters during the visits and take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about fire prevention and emergency preparedness," the city said in a statement.
The fire department has run the home visitation program annually for more than 10 years, visiting a different part of the city each year.
