Flooding delays open for Hepworth campground

Flooding in South Bruce Peninsula will delay the open of a Hepworth campground this year.

The opening of Whispering Pines Family Campground has been postponed until Monday, June 1.

The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound, which owns the campground, says there is substantial flooding throughout the property, and the date may be subject to further delay if the water does not subside.

Ownership says standing water on much of the property has impacted hydro service, septic, potable water, the main office, maintenance facilities, pool, uprooted trees, limited road access, and washouts.

Confirmation of the campground's opening will be provided to seasonal campers one week prior to opening.

Partial refunds will be issued to campers that have prepaid, to reflect the reduced season. New payments will be adjusted accordingly.

The campground will extend the season into the fall, closing on Sunday, October 25.
