Grey Bruce OPP say a Southgate resident is charged with assault after on-ice actions during a recreational hockey tournament.
Police said they became aware of the incident on March 23, two days after it took place at the Dundalk Community Centre.
OPP said they learned that a men's hockey tournament was underway when, during one of the games, a player was assaulted on the ice.
The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
An OPP spokesperson would not elaborate on how it was determined the action rose to the level of assault.
Following the investigation, on April 16 police arrested and charged a 26-year-old from Southgate with aggravated assault.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court on July 9.
