Construction progressing on new Grey County long-term care home

The redevelopment of Grey County's Rockwood Terrace Long-Term Care Home has reached the halfway point.

Grey County reported Monday that the project remains on budget and on track for completion, with an opening targeted for spring 2027.

Construction began in the summer of 2024 on the new, purpose-built facility in Durham to replace the existing home.

Despite two winters marked by unusually heavy snowfall, work has steadily progressed. The county has marked the milestone by releasing a project update video featuring footage from the construction site and commentary from members of the project team. An online project page also provides background information, regular updates, and a live construction camera that refreshes every 15 minutes.

County officials say the expansion will help meet growing demand for long-term care in southern Grey while modernizing the living environment for residents. The new facility will increase capacity to 128 beds, up from the current 100.

Once complete, Rockwood Terrace will offer around-the-clock nursing care, access to physicians, assistance with daily living activities, and a variety of recreational and social programs. Residents will also benefit from services such as meals, housekeeping, and bathing support.

“This milestone is significant. Not just because of the scale of this project, but because of what it means for the future of publicly run long-term care in southern Grey County,” said Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs. “Reaching the halfway point brings us closer to opening a modern, resident-focused home that will serve our communities for decades. This investment demonstrates Grey County’s strong commitment to long-term care services that support dignity, comfort, and quality of life.”

The redevelopment is being carried out by Melloul-Blamey Construction, with architectural services provided by Kasian Architecture and project management support from Colliers Project Leaders.
