Child taken to hospital after ingesting cannabis gummy

The Stratford Police Service is asking parents to have a conversation with their kids about eating unknown items, after an incident this week that resulted in a 10-year-old being hospitalized.

According to police, on Monday, the child arrived at the Pyramid Recreation Centre for after-school programming and shortly after became ill. The parents were contacted and the child was taken to hospital. There it was discovered that THC was present in the child's system, prompting police to be contacted.

Investigation of security footage at PRC showed the child found a gummy on the floor inside the entrance and ate the candy after picking it up.

Stratford Police also reminds the public that though cannabis is legal for those 19 and over, edibles should be handled with care as they can be dangerous to youth and other vulnerable members of the population.
