Impaired driving charges laid in crash that brought down hydro lines

A 23-year-old Grey Highlands man is facing impaired driving charges after a crash near Mount Forest that left a vehicle on its roof and hydro lines across a roadway.

The single-vehicle collision happened at the intersection of Highway 89 and Southgate Sideroad 49 around 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Wellington OPP determined a vehicle hit a utility pole, rolled, and came to rest on its roof in a nearby field.

The crash left hydro wires over the roadway.

The driver and lone occupant was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. He was taken to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

On Monday, police announced that a 23-year-old man is charged with dangerous driving, driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Additionally, the accused has had his driver's licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
