MS Chi-Cheemaun taking reservations for 2026 sailing season

People wanting to set sail this season on the iconic ferry that runs between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island can now book a ticket.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company announced on Tuesday that reservations have opened for the MS Chi-Cheemaun. The 2026 sailing season will run from May 1 until October 18 with daily trips on the waters of Georgian Bay. The scenic crossing takes roughly an hour and 45 minutes during the peak season and two hours during off-peak periods.

Spots are expected to fill up quickly, as another busy season is anticipated. Last year, the number of walk-on travellers on the Chi-Cheemaun rose by 1.2 per cent, while vehicle traffic was up 4.7 percent compared to 2024. The Chi-Cheemaun accommodates various types of vehicles from large motor homes, to commercial vehicles and bicycles on its large vehicle deck. Since it began operation in 1974, the vessel has carried an estimated 10 million passengers and three million vehicles, completing 24,000 voyages between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island.

Travellers can see the 2026 sailing schedule or book a reservation to sail through the Owen Sound Transportation Company's website www.ontarioferries.com/ms-chi-cheemaun. Reservations can also be booked by calling 1-800-265-3163
