United Way Perth Huron celebrating successful Coldest Night of the Year walks

United Way Perth Huron (UWPH) is celebrating after over $227,000 was raised at local Coldest Night of the Year walks.

According to press releases from United Way, The event in Wingham has raised over $23,000 so far. The event is Listowel has raised nearly $49,000, and the walk in Goderich has raised over $155,000.

Goderich had set a goal of $150,000, and it's total so far has made it one of the top 25 Coldest Night of the Year Walks in Canada. The walks annually raise funds to help those who are suffering hurt, homelessness and hunger in communities.

The Goderich event supported the Huron Homelessness Initiative, a group of existing programs and services including emergency shelter for women escaping intimate partner violence, youth shelter supports, temporary emergency accommodation and supports including service navigation, stability work and transitional housing.

The Wingham walk supported the Northern Huron Connection Centre, and the Listowel event raised funds for UWPH’s Urgent Needs Fund and the North Perth Community Developer and Support Worker, which helps find housing and connects people with support services.

Donations are being accepted until March 31 at cnoy.org.
