Future of Cedar Crescent Village in Port Elgin uncertain

After years of anticipation and repeated deadline extensions, the future of the Cedar Crescent Village project in Port Elgin is now in question.

The Town of Saugeen Shores says it’s preparing to take legal steps that could ultimately terminate the development’s lease.

In a statement on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Town says it has worked extensively with developer 2706913 Ontario Inc. to try to move the waterfront project ahead. Council had previously extended timelines, including pushing the completion date to September 2026, after issuing building permits and approving amendments aimed at keeping construction on track.

But the Town says a key construction milestone set for February 2 was not met, and progress has fallen short of what was required under the project’s agreements. Following a full review, the municipality is now moving to enforce its rights under the lease and servicing agreements.

Cedar Crescent Village was envisioned as a cornerstone of the community’s waterfront master plan, a year-round hub featuring retail, food services and public gathering space near Port Elgin’s Main Beach. Permits for both phases were issued in 2023, raising hopes the long-discussed development would finally take shape.

With court proceedings expected, the Town says it’s limited in what it can say publicly, and is asking residents for patience as the matter moves forward.
