Young people in Wellington County who are interested in a career in policing can now sign up for a program that can help them pursue that.
Recruitment is now underway for the Wellington County OPP 2026 Youth in Policing Initiative.
This program is a paid summer internship that will allow two local youth between the ages of 15 and 18 to work with the OPP for eight weeks in July and August, with participants working 25 hours per week.
The two chosen applicants will gain hands-on experience and learn about various aspects of being an OPP officer. That will include things like attending community events, helping maintain an OPP garage and equipment area, assisting with educational presentations, and more.
Interested applicants must be between 15 and 18-years-old, be currently enrolled in high school, be legally able to work in Canada, be a resident of Wellington County, and complete the recruitment and background clearance process. The successful applicants will either work out of the Fergus or Teviotdale OPP detachments. A resumé and a 1,000 word essay on why the applicant would benefit from the program must also be completed.
Applications must be submitted by April 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Applications can be emailed to 13328@opp.ca.
