The Coldest Night of the Year event continues to grow in Midwestern Ontario, with Goderich's event already at 64 per cent of its $150,000 goal.
Goderich's event has already raised over $96,000. United Way Perth Huron shares that the annual walk in Goderich has placed among the top 30 walks across the country over the last three years.
All of the money raised stays in local communities to help sustain and expand critical services that support the most vulnerable. In Huron County, funds support the Huron Homelessness Initiative.
According to a media release from United Way, that initiative is "a group of existing programs and services including emergency shelter for women and children escaping intimate partner violence, youth shelter supports, temporary emergency accommodation and supports including service navigation, stability work and transitional housing."
There are also walks in Auburn, Clinton and Seaforth within Huron County, and numerous walks throughout other communities in Midwestern Ontario.
