Volunteer Income Tax Program returning to Grey and Bruce counties

A volunteer income tax program that returned more than $10.4 million in refunds and benefits to local residents in 2025 is returning to Grey and Bruce counties.

The Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force is bringing back the Grey Bruce Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) for residents this spring.

Despite returning over $10.4 million to residents last year, a media release from the Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force shares that only a fraction of the public that are eligible for the program are utilizing it. In Grey Bruce, an estimated 41,400 people qualified for CVITP services in 2025.

Filing taxes is increasingly important when it comes to accessing certain benefits like the Canadian Dental Care Plan and the upcoming Canada Disability Benefit.

Numerous free tax clinics are being hosted across Grey and Bruce, including at libraries, community agencies, outreach services, and Indigenous organizations.

Residents can find a local Community Volunteer Income Tax Program clinic by calling 2-1-1, speaking with a community navigator or by going to FreeTaxClinics.ca.

Bruce County Public Library is already accepting appointments for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program at five participating branches in Chesley, Kincardine, Port Elgin, Walkerton and Lucknow.

For more information on booking, visit the Bruce County Public Library website at library.brucecounty.on.ca.

"As a trusted community connector, BCPL is proud to offer this valuable service once again. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, even more residents can access the financial support available to them this tax season," said Library Director Brooke McLean.

In 2026, the eligibility income levels have increased to $40,000/1-person, $55,000/2 people, $60,000/3 people, $65,000/4 people, $70,000/5 people and more than 5 people/$70,000, plus $5,000 for each additional person.
