Huron East man charged after lost gun found in Mississauga

A Huron East man has learned the hard way about the consequences of failing to notify police when a gun is lost or stolen.

Huron OPP were contacted by Peel Regional police in January after its officers recovered a handgun in Mississauga that was registered to a man in Huron East. Following an investigation, police arrested the gun's owner.

On Thursday, police announced a 52-year-old Huron East man is charged with failure to report a lost firearm and careless storage of a firearm, weapon, or ammunition. The man has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Goderich court in relation to the charge on March 16.

Police offered no additional information on how the handgun ended up in Mississauga.
