Blowing snow, risk of freezing drizzle across midwestern Ontario

The Friday afternoon and evening commute in midwestern Ontario could be a tricky one.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire region warning of blowing and drifting snow, as well as freezing drizzle.

Winds will pick up in the afternoon, gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour from the southwest. That will cause snow to blow around and significantly reduce visibility on the roads, particularly in wind-prone and exposed areas.

By the evening and through the overnight hours, there is a risk of freezing drizzle.

"Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Roads, walkways, and other surfaces may become icy and slippery," Environment Canada cautioned in its statement.

Any freezing drizzle that does develop will end by Saturday morning.
