Arthur altercation results in weapons charges

One person remains in police custody following an incident in the community of Arthur.

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police say officers, along with the West Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, were notified around 9:30 a.m. on February 5 about an altercation connected to a residence on Tucker Street in Arthur. Police indicate the incident itself occurred earlier, on January 3.

Following the investigation, a 31-year-old Arthur resident has been charged with several Criminal Code offences. The charges include robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, assault, uttering threats, failure to comply with a release order, and breach of recognizance.

Police say one victim sustained minor injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The accused remains in custody as he awaits a bail hearing.

Wellington County OPP are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact police at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington, with a potential cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
