A 30-year-old man is facing numerous charges following an alleged retail theft and a police pursuit.
Hanover police responded to a pharmacy on 10th Street on Thursday afternoon. Officers learned that a man was confronted by staff after trying to leave the store without paying for items.
The suspect ran and drove off in a vehicle parked across the street.
Minutes later, West Grey police patrol officers spotted the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and tried to stop it. The pursuit was soon called off for safety reasons, but the vehicle soon slid into a ditch near Allan Park north of County Road 4.
The suspect was arrested by West Grey police and charged in connection with the pursuit before being turned over to Hanover police.
About $4,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered, along with an electronic device used to avoid anti-theft alarms.
The Richmond Hill resident is charged in Hanover with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and unlawful use of a computer.
The charges have not been proven in court.
