Funding provided to operate CT scanners

Two area hospitals are receiving provincial funding to support additional hours of operation of their CT scanners.

On Friday, Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington, announced a combined amount of $2 million in funding for the Listowel Memorial Hospital and the Stratford General Hospital.

"Our rural hospitals are essential to the strength of our communities,” said Rae in a media release. "This funding will help reduce wait times and ensure patients continue receiving high-quality care close to home."

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA), which oversees the Stratford Hospital, will receive $1,389,950, and the Listowel Hospital will get $683,600.

The investments will support our local hospitals and the operation of CT machines, while providing additional funding decrease waiting lists for a variety of surgeries: including neurosurgeries, orthopedic, gynecologic, cataract, hernia and pediatric surgeries.

"These funds will enable the HPHA team to improve access to care by reducing wait times for essential surgeries and CT scans, helping ensure patients receive the care they need, when they need it most,"said Andrew Williams, President and CEO of HPHA.

This funding is part of a larger investment across Ontario to support 324,000 additional CT hours across 86 hospitals in Ontario.
