Local businesses support United Housing build in South Huron

United Housing has received funding support from some local businesses for a new affordable housing build in South Huron.

According to a media release, Jayden’s Mechanical and the McCann Group each donated $25,000 to United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) for the next project that will be built in Exeter. United Housing has a $150,000 land campaign fundraising goal for a new project in Exeter.

The newest project in Exeter is also being aided by land offered to United Housing at a reduced cost by the Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle church. The church already hosts the Southern Huron Connection Centre, which provides numerous supports for those experiencing homelessness.

For those unfamiliar with the United Housing initiative, UWPH says that it is "the region’s first non-profit housing organization dedicated to developing and operating mixed rental units. United Housing aims to work across our region, creating affordable living spaces through renovations, retrofits, acquisitions, and new builds, as well as operating existing and newly built housing; helping ensure that everyone lives in housing suitable and affordable to their needs."

Anyone interested in making a capital donation can contact Michelle Millar, UWPH Manager Community Development, United Housing Huron County, at mmillar@perthhuron.unitedway.ca.

"We’re proud to support this important work," said Jayden DesJardine, President of Jayden’s Mechanical. "Access to stable housing is fundamental to strong communities, and we’re committed to helping make that a reality for families in South Huron."

"Affordable housing is critical for South Huron’s future," added Jesse McCann, partner at the McCann Group. "We’re excited to be part of a project that will have a lasting impact."

"We’d like to thank Jayden’s Mechanical and the McCann Group for taking the lead on this important project for Exeter and the surrounding area by making an early investment," said UWPH and UH Executive Director Ryan Erb. "We’d also like to thank Litman Farms and MacLean’s Home Hardware in Grand Bend for coming to the table after hearing more about this community building project and lending their support."
