West Grey police are investigating reports of counterfeit Canadian currency being used at local businesses in the municipality and surrounding area.
Police say they have received ten reports over the past week involving counterfeit bills. Officers are asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects believed to be connected to the investigation.
A 27-year-old West Grey woman was arrested on the evening of February 2, 2026 after allegedly using counterfeit currency at two businesses in Durham. Police say she was charged and later released to Hanover Police, where she is also facing related charges. The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges may be laid.
West Grey Police are urging businesses to remain vigilant when accepting cash. Officers say counterfeit bills may feel unusually smooth, lack clear security features, or show irregular serial numbers.
