Three local healthcare services in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound are splitting over $2.2 million in provincial funding.
The announcement was made by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers on January 30. The funding is being provided via the provincial government's Incremental Surgical Recovery Fund, aimed at reducing waiting times for diagnostic and surgical services.
Brightshores Health System and South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will receive support to provide additional CT services, while Brightshores, SBGHC, and the Hanover District Hospital will be receiving Incremental Surgical Recovery funding to help clear surgical backlogs.
For additional CT support, Brightshores is receiving just over $1.36 million, while SBGHC is getting $400,000. For incremental surgical recovery funding, Brightshores is receiving just over $362,000, SBGHC is getting just over $96,000, and Hanover and District Hospital is getting just under $34,000.
"This is an important announcement for Bruce and Grey counties," said Vickers. "This investment will help clear backlogs, right here in our own backyard. I am grateful to Minister Jones and the Ministry of Health for providing this additional support here in our community."
"CT imaging is essential to delivering high‑quality patient care, and we are equipped with state‑of‑the‑art scanners to meet that need," said Ann Ford, President and CEO of Brightshores Health System. "Today’s funding announcement from the provincial government is welcome news for Grey and Bruce counties."
"This investment from the Government of Ontario will support timely access to CT services for our patients and meet the needs of our growing communities," added Nancy Shaw, President and CEO of SBGHC. "As the first rural CT scanner in Ontario, the CT program has been operational since 1999 and continues with strong community support."
