Police temporarily suspend search for missing Georgian Bluffs man

A police search for a missing Georgian Bluffs man has been temporarily suspended due to dangerous conditions.

Police began searching for 64-year-old James Van-Veen on January 26 after James failed to show up for work. A short time later, his vehicle was located unoccupied in the parking lot at Inglis Falls Conservation Area. Officers immediately began search efforts in the area.

Extensive searches of the area took place over the following few days, with assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, OPP Aviation Services, and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.

Winter conditions, including heavy snow, unstable ice, and hazardous terrain, resulted in significant safety risks for search personnel. Due to the poor conditions, police are temporarily suspending search efforts until conditions become safer for crews.

Van-Veen is described as 5'10", 175 lbs, with shoulder‑length grey/white hair, a full grey beard, brown eyes, and prescription glasses. He is believed to be wearing dark overalls and high‑cut work boots.

Anyone who was in the Inglis Falls area between the evening of January 25 and the late morning of January 26, 2026, is asked to review any dash-cam, home surveillance, or trail camera footage for potential sightings.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of James Van-Veen, immediately contact Grey Bruce OPP or Crime Stoppers.
