North Perth Council recently received the results from a Retail Market Demand Study that was conducted last year.
Kim Kowch, Economic Development Officer for the municipality, says the study was looking at the impact of changes to the retail sector since the last study in 2018.
"We wanted to look at assessing the current retail sector supply, and the future demand anticipated primarily because of our anticipated population growth," said Kowch.
The study also was about business attraction and retention. Kowch says the study found a few things that the municipality could do to help ensure consistent retail growth.
"We may want to do some things to help support start-up business, and encourage larger retailers that may start to consider maybe coming to the area or that are currently in the area, encourage them to stay in our downtowns and grow in our downtowns," she said.
Kowch also notes that part of the study was looking at ideas to better support the businesses in town and to attract new ones.
"Enhance and beautify and attract events and things like that to our downtowns. To look at our community improvement plan and look at different ways that we can enhance that plan to support new business start-ups," Kowch concluded.
The findings of the study will soon be made public on the North Perth website.
