Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre officially opens

The Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre has officially opened its doors with a grand opening celebration.

Saturday morning, residents, donors, sponsors, and community partners gathered for the Splish Splash Thank You Bash that marked the completion of the state-of-the-art facility in Port Elgin.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau kicked off the festivities in memorable fashion, performing the first cannonball into the new pool to officially welcome the community into the Port Elgin centre.

A $100,600 Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) supported the new centre, helping to fund the purchase of gymnasium equipment, sports gear for pickleball, volleyball, floor hockey, and badminton, as well as accessible aquatic equipment to enhance inclusivity.

“The opening of the Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre marks a proud moment for this community and reflects a shared commitment to health, inclusion, and active living,” said Huron-Bruce Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Lisa Thompson.

Mayor Charbonneau echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the project.

“This facility will serve our community for generations, promoting health, wellness, and connection. It’s more than a building. It’s a place where people of all ages and abilities can come together," Charbonneau added.

The Town of Saugeen Shores says the centre features an eight-lane competition pool, leisure pool, fitness centre, walking track, gymnasium, and multi-purpose program rooms.

The Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre opens for regular operational hours on Monday, January 26, beginning at 6 a.m.
