Huron-Kinloss budget includes four per cent tax increase

The Township of Huron‑Kinloss has published the Mayor’s Proposed Budget for 2026 and the financial plans for the year will be presented at next week's council meeting.

Prepared by Mayor Don Murray, the proposed budget includes a levy increase of 6.51 per cent (or $746,968) compared to 2025. That increase results in a four per cent increase in the municipal residential tax rate, or for the average assessed home of $272,000, taxes will increase by approximately $82.50.

In the budget document, Mayor Murray said the Township was balancing infrastructure, which is its biggest priority, with the financial pressures faced by households.

"By taking care of what we have today, we are preventing much higher costs down the road and ensuring that Huron-Kinloss remains a place where our families can afford to live for generations to come," wrote Murray. "By finding ways to work more efficiently and prioritizing long-term stability, we are working to keep our Township an affordable and welcoming place for everyone."

The Mayor will formally present the budget at the council meeting on Monday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting in Ripley is open to the public and residents are invited out to learn more about the proposed budget.

Following the presentation, members of Council will have an opportunity to propose amendments to the draft budget in accordance with the legislated process for Mayoral Power under the Municipal Act.
