Bruce County advocates for homelessness supports, rural transit and more at ROMA

Representatives from Bruce County were involved in nine delegation meetings covering a vast array of topics at the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference.

This year's conference in Toronto saw Bruce County participate in delegations that included advancing supports for homelessness, sustainable and predictable funding for rural transit, advocacy for child care space flexibility and expansion of funding for agricultural waste reduction and biogas development.

Bruce County also participated in meetings regarding fair access to justice services, municipal spending on health care, sustainable funding for rural municipal infrastructure, investment in energy for the province and efficient vulnerable sector checks.

Additionally, Bruce County’s Commissioner of Community Development Claire Dodds spoke as part of a panel about leveraging new opportunities to develop housing in rural Ontario.

"The Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference is a fantastic event where we can showcase what makes Bruce County unique. We take this opportunity to champion our communities and to advocate for our needs. We also make connections; building and nurturing partnerships to explore innovative solutions that will make life better for families and businesses today, and for future generations," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau.

Charbonneau added that he was happy to highlight the county's needs for a multi-faceted approach to housing in the region.

Our housing efforts are focusing on actions that create conditions for increasing supply and impacting affordability," Charbonneaur noted. "Partnerships play a huge part in these actions, so what better place to explore how Bruce County can lead a unified approach across government levels."
