Stranded snowmobiler rescued near Pearl Lake

Emergency services in the Municipality of Brockton sprang into action on Tuesday to save a snowmobiler who had become stranded in deep snow.

South Bruce OPP, along with area fire and paramedic services, received a report about the snowmobiler in distress around 12:45 p.m. It was determined the person had left a groomed trail near Pearl Lake and got the snowmobile stuck in deep snow. The snow was so deep, the snowmobiler was also having trouble walking through it.

Despite the person being unsure of their exact location and their cell phone battery being very low, they were found in good health by firefighters.

A 35-year-old from LaSalle is charged with failure to produce a licence and driving a snow vehicle without a trail permit.

The incident has prompted police to remind those venturing out on snowmobiles to be prepared, which includes dressing for the conditions, having a fully charged cell phone, and packing a survival kit. Police also noted that snowmobilers should always be aware of their location and any potential hazards.

A trail permit is required to operate on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trails, police added.
