Residents in Brucefield, Clinton, and Vanastra will have easier access to public transit starting next month.
Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) has announced a new bus stop on its Grand Bend to Goderich route (Route 3) will be open in Brucefield as of February 2. The stop will be located on Ellen Street South at Mill Road, expanding access to those in nearby communities. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons the bus will stop in Brucefield at 12:39 p.m. and 3:19 p.m. when travelling toward Goderich, and at 1:53 p.m. and 4:33 p.m. on return trips to Grand Bend.
"Passengers can travel to Goderich and return the same day by taking the 12:39 p.m. bus from Brucefield and returning on the 4 p.m. bus from Goderich," HSAT said in a statement. "The Goderich stop is located at the RioCan plaza on Huron Road near the Walmart entrance, providing convenient access to major retailers including Walmart, Zehrs, PetValu, Canadian Tire, and Mark’s Work Warehouse."
The addition of the Brucefield stop will allow those in the area to travel all the way to Masonville Mall in London by 6:20 p.m. by taking the route to Grand Bend as that bus switches to the Route 2 through South Huron upon arrival. It makes stops in Dashwood, Exeter, Huron Park, and Centralia before arriving in London.
"Currently, same-day return service from London to Brucefield is not available," the municipally operated regional bus system noted.
There are plans to install a bike corral at the Brucefield stop this spring or summer. This will allow transit riders to bike to the stop and secure their bicycle before boarding.
The fare to Grand Bend is $6, while the cost to get to Goderich and London is $12.
